interesting links, october 2025!

i promise i have several high-effort blog posts in the works, i really do, but for now i want to share some links to stuff i found interesting this month.

i've been pretty busy with moving to an apartment, working, and trying not to catch a cold; but i've seen some fun videos and read some good articles that i'd like to share!

most of these links i previously posted to my mastodon, so it's only fair that the hypothetical "blog-reader who doesn't also follow me on mastodon" should get to see the interesting links too! most of them are youtube videos. it's a terrible website that i find unwatchable without an adblocker, but there's so much cool stuff on there. much to recommend only if you have an adblocker that works (i've been using "adblock plus," it's been pretty good)

POWER CAT - The latest creation of Ruby from ultimate experience, Power Cat is truly the heathcliff of arizona. it's great!

biked around the VA, and did the normie protest day - Laura Michet. Two fascinating glimpses into the mysterious world of the westside!

dial-a-pod. is my whole blog a mouthpiece for the Nicky Flowers media empire? maybe! but what a concept this is. it's fun!

The Pedways - Transiting Los Angeles. This is a great exploration of some weird downtown infrastructure, and a deep dive into the planning history of Bunker Hill's incredibly cursed redevelopment.

van hools in the berkeley hills. Selig's trains and travels is a great channel. have you ever wondered what a travelog would be like if it was filmed and edited by someone who is just as obsessed with buses as i am? Selig has you covered. this video shows some really cool AC transit routes with quirky little buses.

Dealing with overcrowding - case study of metrobus line 7 in Mexico City. Transit World's videos are always great, some of the precious little coverage of public transit in Mexico on the english-language internet.

oil field units. Alexander the OK lays out the dizzying array of measurement systems used on north sea oil platforms, and how the units themselves act as a form of hazing.

interview with tim from way out west - make with mitch. This is a really fun and informative walk-through of one of my longtime favorite projects on the whole internet, the ballylickey farm railway. Tim, the mad genius behind it, built it to help harvest garlic without the expense and erosion of a tractor. his videos are all really cool. here's a video of the railway at work doing exactly its intended job!

the eastern agricultural complex. Ancient Americas is one of my favorite history youtube channels, and this video is a really cool exploration of crop domestication in north america long before even the introduction of maize! there are some unexpected varieties of plants that it turns out were domesticated.

why this modern dc streetcar never opened. The always-excellent Andy on Track explores some shockingly recent abandoned streetcar infrastructure in Anacostia. I had never heard of this streetcar before, and it's a fascinating tragedy.

garbage time drives the cheapest 2009 car in australia (a proton saga) on a race track!

The man who loved buses so much he was institutionalized! tor's cabinet of curiosities recounts the life and times of a great outsider artist, Bus Man. do i even have to say i relate to Bus Man? of course not, you already knew that.

That's all for now. stay tuned for more posts in the near to medium future! I've also started a Website League account, follow me over there! it should be fun! Alsocde fg I finally set up an email for this website. if you have any questions, comments, tips, interesting links, etc, send them to me@bucketcreature.net!
